Kick In to Stop Sarcoidosis on April 8
New event aims to foster a sense of community for people living with this rare disease, while creating awareness in Westchester County

Mamaroneck, NY – Mamaroneck resident Kerry Wong is hosting the KISS Westchester Sarcoidosis Walk ‘n’ Roll on April 8 at Mamaroneck High School. The event aims to bring awareness to a disease that often mimics other conditions, making the journey to diagnosis long and difficult. Registration/Check-in is at 9:30AM, with the event itself kicking off at 10AM.
“Everyone knows that it's not easy living with sarcoidosis. I take that back. Hardly anyone knows. In fact, most people don't understand when we try to explain. That just makes it even harder for us to get through life with this disease. It can make us feel so alone.” ~Kerry Wong
The event takes place on a track, so there is no set distance; participants can walk (or roll, if using the support of a wheelchair or scooter) as much or as little as able. The important thing is to be there, whether in person or in spirit: there’s even a Virtual Walker option for those who wish to be part of the event but are unable to attend. All registered participants will receive a t-shirt (in the mail) and other SWAG (at the event). There will also be raffles and other items available in exchange for contribution; all proceeds will be donated to Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization dedicated to finding a cure for this disease and to improving care for sarcoidosis patients.
“This is a first-year event for us here in Westchester. I’m working to build a community for the sarcoidosis patients in this area. Because it’s so rare, many of us have never actually met anyone else with the same diagnosis. At the same time, I’m doing this to raise awareness about the disease, since most people around us have never even heard of it … and of course, raise to funds for research towards better treatments, programs for patients, and someday, a cure.” ~Kerry Wong
Sarcoidosis (pronounced SAR-COY-DOE-SIS) is an inflammatory disease characterized by the formation of granulomas, tiny clumps of inflammatory cells, in one or more organs of the body. When the immune system goes into overdrive and too many of these clumps form, they can interfere with an organ's structure and function. Sarcoidosis can affect any organ in the body, and can cause systemic, or whole body, symptoms as well. There is no cure for sarcoidosis, but there is hope.
