Inviting Birds and Pollinators into your Garden with Lynn Becker

As climate change and ongoing development diminish our native bird and pollinator populations, finding ways to regain habitable landscapes is increasingly important. This presentation will discuss the ongoing threats to birds and pollinators, as well as the plants and design strategies that will encourage them to return to our local gardens.

A life-long gardener, Lynn Becker received her certificates in Horticulture and Landscape Design from the New York Botanical Garden in 2015 and studied at the Westchester Native Plant Center. Prior to founding Trout Lily Garden Design in 2012, Lynn worked as an attorney and executive recruiter in New York City, as well as a writer and Contributing Editor for a variety of luxury lifestyle magazines. Lynn currently serves on the Water and Land Use Task force for Bedford 2020 and the Executive Board of the Katonah Village Improvement Society (KVIS). She was a member of the Board of the Bedford Audubon Society from 2011 to 2014, where she was Chair of the Native Plant Committee. She is a graduate of Colgate University.

Sacred Gardening: Yielding to the Call of the Land with Paul W. Jacob

Paul Jacob spent two years developing a sustainable organic garden/orchard for a family on Cortes Island, off the coast of British Columbia, Canada. This program is a combination of both visuals (photographs that document the creation and evolution of that garden/orchard and the community that developed through it) and a lecture about how to start listening to and tending the land no matter where you live.

Paul W. Jacob is a poet, writer, teacher, chef, gardener, and contemplative guide. He facilitates spiritual retreats at centers of consciousness across the United States, such as Ghost Ranch in New Mexico and Cobblestone Springs in New York. Jacob was also the Co-Founder and Publishing Director of the culturally influential Modern Nomad magazine. He is currently the Writer-in-Residence for the Stony Point Center in New York and teaches classes on Writing and World Religions at select colleges and educational institutions. His book, Nomadic Devotion: A Contemplative Inquiry into the Poetics of Place, recently entered its third printing. He also collaborated with the renowned jazz pianist, Eddie Higgins, on the poetry and jazz album, Miami Session, and has had several books published under the pen name, Jake Kaida, including Blue Collar Nomad: The Literary Reflections of a Grassroots Pilgrim.
