The Larchmont Public Library is Planning a "Transformation" - Come and See!

Join us on Sunday, October 26, at our Open House to see first-hand the plans for how the library will transform for the future.

The Board of Trustees of the Larchmont Public Library invites you to an Open House at the Library on Sunday, October 26th, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. The Board is planning to update and renew the main Library building - to “transform” the existing space - in order to better meet the current and future needs of our community. This Open House is your opportunity to see the architectural drawings, tour the Library and get a first-hand look at the planned improvements.

The Digital Era has changed the way people use libraries, and libraries everywhere are adapting to meet these changing needs. At the Larchmont Public Library, while demand for traditional services remains strong, there is an ever-increasing need for new technologies and services. The Library’s indoor space and facilities are being updated in order to meet these needs. The main Library building was last renovated in 1994; consider the rapid development of technology over the past twenty years, and you will realize why these improvements are long overdue. The Transformation is essential to ensure our Library stays up-to-date technologically and meets the diverse and expanding needs of our community.

Lothrop and Associates, an award-winning architectural firm specializing in libraries, has drawn plans that work with the Library’s existing footprint; the drawings envision a “transformation” - designed to improve flow and enhance the current space - rather than an expansion or full-scale renovation. Plans include a state-of-the-art Technology Commons (with ample computers, work stations, charging docks, a laptop bar and an instruction room), a vibrant new Young Adult space, tutoring rooms and a cafe.
