Local Emergency Declared, Village Reinstates COVID Restrictions
Mamaroneck has reintroduced pandemic-related mask mandates and rules about how municipal business is conducted in public buildings.

MAMARONECK, NY — A new local emergency proclamation means that social distancing and mask mandates are back for municipal buildings in the Village of Mamaroneck.
Until Wednesday, coronavirus-related restrictions in the village were slowly being rolled back as the pandemic ebbed, but now, citing a COVID-19-related emergency imperiling public safety, Mamaroneck Village Manager Jerry Barberio has issued a proclamation reinstating regulations for municipal offices, including police, courts and fire department facilities.
The emergency rules are slightly less strict than some of the restrictions in place during the height of the pandemic. The city manager said the pandemic restrictions for those visiting or working in municipal buildings were rolled back in June when the governor's statewide emergency order expired.

Barberio said the emergency order was not put in place because of a specific outbreak in Mamaroneck, but was issued out of an "abundance of caution" and to align the village with the latest CDC recommendations.
The local emergency proclamation limits visitors to the police department and courtroom buildings as well as the offices of the village manager, clerk, treasurer and building department. Fire department facilities, the harbor master's office and parks department offices will also be off limits to all but authorized personnel.

Courts will continue to hear cases, but only those with business in front of the court will be allowed to enter. Those appearing before the judge will be required to wait outside until their cases are called.
The emergency order means masks and social distancing are once again the new normal for now — at least on village property.
