
MAMARONECK, NY — A new assistant principal has been appointed at Mamaroneck High School. The Board of Education Tuesday chose Lina Cannavo to replace Stephen Frasene, who is retiring in June after 14 years in the district. Cannavo comes from the Rye Neck Schools, where she has taught Spanish and Italian for the past 10 years at the high school and middle school.
She currently service as a community leader intern at the Community Resource Center in Mamaroneck, where she has been collaborating with the director on educational programs to drive increased student participation.
Before Rye Neck Cannavo taught various levels of Italian and Spanish at Preston High School in the Bronx.

She received her undergraduate degree from Fordham University with a double major in Italian and Spanish language and literature. Her master’s degree from Iona College in teaching, adolescent education.

Carol Priore, the assistant superintendent for administration and personnel, said the district feels confident that its found a strong team member who will be an asset to moving the high school and administrative team forward.
“The teachers and support staff members were in unanimous support of her candidacy and concluded that Lina’s ability to foster positive relationships and a positive school climate for learning came through as she spoke about her work,” she said.
Cannavo will assume her duties effective July 1.
