Mamaroneck Donates Clothing, Money To Fire Victims

Enough clothing has been donated, the mayor said, but monetary donations are still being accepted.

MAMARONECK, NY — The Mamaroneck community has donated clothing and money to help eight families displaced by a fire Friday on Mt. Pleasant Avenue. About 25 people, including nine children, were affected.

The Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity of Westchester were on scene helping, the Journal News said.

A call out to the community from Mayor Tom Murphy netted clothing, toiletries and toys for the fire’s victims.

In an email, Murphy said the Community Resource Center opened its doors to serve as a temporary shelter and the place to which people could bring donated items.

Murphy said clothes are no longer needed, but more financial assistance will be needed going forward.

Checks can be made out to the Community Resource Center, with the note “Fire Victims” written on it.

Mail the checks to the Community Resource Center, 134 Center Ave., Mamaroneck, NY 10543.

“This is an amazing community,” Murphy said. “You have given families who don’t possess financial resiliency the best Christmas gift imaginable: Hope.”
