Mamaroneck FBLA Rocks Rochester!

April 2017--
Late last Tuesday, Mamaroneck High School's FBLA chapter left MHS for the State Leadership Conference.
The State Leadership Conference is the much-awaited end of year conference for each state in FBLA. For the past 5 years, New York State has had its SLC in Rochester but they now say goodbye as next year's SLC will be in Binghamton. At SLC, students participate in competitions such as Impromptu Speaking, Marketing, Business Law, etc. These can be written tests or presentations to a panel of judges. By doing these competitions students are able to learn and practice skills for future life in the professional world; they can also place (top 3 in the state, by competition) for the National Leadership Conference (NLC) held in Anaheim this year.

Mamaroneck --like last year-- took Mount Vernon with them on the buses to Rochester; however, after 5 hours of bus they stopped at Syracuse: it was time for dinner! The two chapters socialized and built connections over dinner at Dave and Buster's. When dinner was over, they headed for Rochester and arrived there at 10 pm.
The following day, Wednesday, the Conference opened: most written tests were administered that day and as evening came Sophia Danziger (the NYS President and Mamaroneck FBLA member) led the State Officer Team to the Opening Session.

Thursday, many presentations such as Digital Design and Publication Design were administered, as well as the second round of many written tests. Thursday was also voting day. Candidates for state positions opened their booths and gave their pitches to members and voting delegates. From Mamaroneck, Phoebe Weiser ran for State Treasurer and Chloe Weiser ran for District 3S Vice President (this is the position in charge of District 3S, but a Vice President to the State). During the afternoon, voting delegates met and voted. We would like to congratulate both Chloe and Phoebe for winning their respective positions and being part of next year's State Officer Team!
Friday was a short day, the Conference ended at 11:30. Nevertheless, it was a very important day: Friday was the Awards' Ceremony. Mamaroneck as a whole did great with many members qualifying for NLC and many being recognized. Mamaroneck finished 6th out of more than 60 chapters for Chapter of the Year. Annie Whittemore, Chloe Weiser, and Phoebe Weiser all won awards for their help and participation in State committees. Sophia Danziger won a couple of awards (4) for her outstanding work as an Officer, member, and the legacy she is leaving on New York FBLA (she is a senior). Additionally, as Mr. Muller stepped down from NYS Advisor and Mamaroneck FBLA's very own Chapter Advisor, Ms. Maria Sicilliano, was voted in by a Board to State Advisor. She also won Advisor of the Year for her wonderful work in FBLA this year. Congratulations! Congratulations to all!
