Mamaroneck Issues Warning about 'Eminent Domain' Scam

If someone approaches you or a neighbor in relation to such proposals, contact the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department.

Village of Mamaroneck officials are warning residents to be on the lookout for a scam where people are claiming the government is going to seize property through “eminent domain.”

In recent days, “one or more or persons are walking around neighborhoods” falsely stating that the government is going to take property through eminent domain, but Village officials want to make it clear that such statements are completely false. Some have also flashed a fake government ID as part of the scam.

“The Village is issuing this statement that the Village has no plans to acquire property or engage in condemnation by eminent domain for any purpose related to development or redevelopment,” officials said Tuesday.
