Mamaroneck Mayor Warns of Utility Scam
Scammers are calling people promising federal help with paying utility bills.

Mamaroneck, NY — Mamaroneck residents should be aware that there is a new utility bill scam being reported around the country.
Mayor Norman S. Rosenblum said in an email that scammers are contacting utility customers saying they represent a new government program that offers money to pay utility bills.

He said customers are then given false bank information if they provide Social Security numbers and other personal information.

Rosenblum urged residents to never provide personal information unless you’ve verified who you are speaking with.
“Failure to do so could lead to identity theft, as well as to returned check fees and other penalties for the use of false information.
