Mamaroneck Receives $50,000 for Tree and Sidewalk Improvements
Under the DEC's Urban Forestry program, Mamaroneck's $50,000 will be split into two $25,000 grants.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation has awarded Mamaroneck $50,000 to go toward tree and sidewalk improvement projects in the community, the DEC announced Wednesday.
Under the DEC’s Urban Forestry program, Mamaroneck’s $50,000 will be split into two $25,000 grants, one for “Preparation of Tree Management Program for the Village of Mamaroneck,” and the other for “High Priority Tree Maintenance and Sidewalk Repair Initiative.”
The Mamaroneck grants are part of $930,000 in state funding that’s been awarded to “40 urban forestry projects in communities across New York to help protect air, water and natural resources, and enhance urban communities,” according to DEC Commissioner Joe Martens. The village’s sidewalk project already has received more than $300,000 in state funding.

“Urban forestry programs are vital to creating a vibrant environment that provides clean air, clean water, energy savings, robust habitats and a high quality of life for New Yorkers,” said Martens in a statement. “Thanks to Governor Cuomo and the State Legislature providing Environmental Protection Funds (EPF), New York is able to offer this critical assistance to help improve the environment, support outdoor recreation and enhance economic conditions across the state.”
