MAMARONECK, NY — Apologizing for the late notice, Mamaroneck school officials said this morning that classes wold not take place on Wednesday.

The district said the move was due to unsafe road conditions throughout the area and the "impact this is having on many of our staff members being able to travel to school safely." The announcement followed a chain reaction, fatal multi-car collision on the Hutchinson River Parkway earlier in the morning.

The decision to close schools was complicated by the fact that the school district's website was experiencing outages just as parents were looking for information about the sudden change in plans on Wednesday.

"Our district website provider (Finalsite) has been experiencing technical difficulties over the last 24 hours and, as a result, certain components and pages of our website are down, including our ability to post any updates," district officials said in a statement released just before 9:30 a.m."We hope the issue will be resolved shortly."
