Mamaroneck Schools To Open Monday After Ida Flood Delayed Start
COVID-19 testing kits are being distributed to all students.

MAMARONECK, NY — After a brief delay caused by Post-Tropical Cyclone Ida, Mamaroneck Union Free School District will head back to the classroom for the new school year on Monday.
The district opted to delay the start of the school year which was scheduled to begin on Friday, in part because of storm damage at some schools and in part to give families struggling with widespread flooding in the area more time to get ready for the new term. Now, Superintendent Robert Shaps reports that schools are on track to welcome students back after the weekend.
"Yesterday afternoon, Assistant Superintendent of Business Sylvia Wallach, Director of Facilities Steve Brugge and I met with our restoration partner and air quality engineers to get an update on the work being done to repair and restore our school buildings impacted by last Wednesday’s storm," Shaps told families Wednesday evening. "I am pleased to report that work on our schools is on track despite many challenges, and we look forward to greeting all students this Monday, Sept. 13."
