“Movie Man” Rob Goldstone To Present a Discussion of the Life & Films of Alfred Hitchcock
Join Rob Goldstone on Wednesday, May 17 at 2:30pm, at the Larchmont Public Library, for a discussion of the life & films of Alfred Hitchcock

As a life-long film buff, Rob Goldstone, Westchester’s “Movie Man”, considers film director Alfred Hitchcock one of the very best film creators ever. Period. Born in London on August 13, 1899, Alfred Hitchcock worked for a short time in engineering before entering the film industry in 1920. He left for Hollywood in 1939, where his first American film, Rebecca, won an Academy Award for best picture. Across his career, which encompassed six decades, Hitchcock created more than 50 films, including the classics Rear Window, The 39 Steps and Psycho. Nicknamed the "Master of Suspense," Hitchcock received the AFI's Life Achievement Award in 1979. He died in 1980.
Join Rob Goldstone on Wednesday, May 17 at 2:30pm, at the Larchmont Public Library, for an in-depth discussion about the life and films of Alfred Hitchcock. As a prelude to the Hitchcock discussion, Goldstone will screen the 1953 Hitchcock film I Confess as part of the “Rob Goldstone Presents” series at 2:30pm on Wednesday, May 10 at the library.
Rob Goldstone has been a resident of Larchmont for over forty-five years, and is known throughout Westchester County as “The Movie Man”. Born in New York City, Goldstone started going to the movies at a very young age. He fondly recalls that for fifteen cents he could spend an afternoon or an evening viewing two feature films, a serial, sports highlights and current newsreels. Very often, the price of admission would include things like free kitchen glassware which he would take home. The films Goldstone viewed as a youth - including many Alfred Hitchcock films - solidified in him a love for quality film and filmmaking.

His passion for film drove him ultimately to a unique concept for sharing and presenting the films he loves, creating “ROB GOLDSTONE PRESENTS”; the popular monthly film series held at the Larchmont Public Library in which he screens classic films and discusses not only the movie but also little-known facts about the making of each film.
Goldstone’s mission to share the films he loves has multiple goals. First, he hopes that those who also grew up with these films will be taken back to a time when life may have been a little less complicated and that the films will bring back some great memories. Secondly, he hopes that in the sharing of these films a spark of interest may be ignited in a more youthful audience. “Unlike the films of today, which have to carry various ratings indicating who the appropriate audience is, classic films were made for all ages to enjoy and become absorbed in”, says Goldstone. “These films are not just classics because they were made so many years ago. They are classic because they exude class on every level”. He also adds, “There’s nothing you can do that’s more satisfying than to spend a couple of hours watching a truly classic film. There’s no better value either, since there is no admission charged. And given what it costs to go to the movies these days, what better value is there than that?”
