New Assistant Principal Chosen In Mamaroneck District

MAMARONECK, NY — The Mamaroneck Union Free School District Board of Education Wednesday appointed a new assistant principal. Sandra Zadrima was made assistant principal — effective immediately — of Chatsworth Avenue School. She will replace Emily Macias-Capellan, who is moving on to serve as assistant principal at Hommocks Middle School.

Zadrima came to Mamaroneck from her current position as assistant principal at Joseph Rodman Drake School (PS 48) in the Bronx, where she has supervised a diverse staff, been the Instructional Math Lead and been trained in the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence (RULER) approach, spearheading a committee focused on the social and emotional needs of students, according to a district spokeswoman.

In addition to receiving a masters in School Building Leadership, Zadrima earned a masters specializing in Literacy and was the recipient of the LUTE award for her thesis focused on reading comprehension and fluency.

"I am excited to join the Mamaroneck school district and appreciate the opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful community. I look forward to fostering strong relationships with our students, their families and the community as a whole. I will, in conjunction with the rest of the administrative and educational staff, continue to build a nurturing school environment conducive to learning and growing," Zadrima said.

Prior to being named assistant principal at PS 48 in 2015, Zadrima held the math coach position at the school since 2010. She coached teachers, modeled lessons, developed assessments and wrote curriculum maps to support the implementation of the Common Core Learning Standards.

Zadrima began her career as a classroom teacher at the school, teaching subjects for grades 3-5.

Chatsworth Avenue School Principal Katie Andersen said, during the search committee's interview process, that Zadrima stood out as a candidate with strong leadership skills, as well as classroom experience.

"Her philosophies and strategies for building a warm and positive school culture, centered around students' social-emotional needs and their availability for learning, align directly with the mission of our school and our district," she said.
