A Night of Jewish Music & Joy

Join us on Saturday, November 15, 2014 for a Westchester-wide celebration of music and community.

The 2nd Biennial Night of Jewish Music & Joy will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014, 7:30 p.m. at Temple Israel of New Rochelle, 1000 Pinebrook Boulevard, New Rochelle, New York. The celebration is presented by the Westchester Jewish Council and Kol Hazzanim – The Cantors of Westchester, with grant support from UJA-Federation of New York/Westchester.

The evening will feature the talents of a record number of cantors, 28 in total, from Westchester, including Shira Adler; Ellen Arad, Beth El Synagogue Center of New Rochelle; Devorah Avery, Temple Israel of Northern Westchester; Chanin Becker, Scarsdale Synagogues Temples Tremont and Emanu-El; Gerald Cohen, Shaarei Tikvah; Melanie Cooperman, Community Synagogue of Rye; Farid Dardashti, Beth El Synagogue Center of New Rochelle; Cantor Ellen Dreskin, Hebrew Union College; Gidi Elon, Oceanside Jewish Center; Cantor Jamie Gloth, Beth El Synagogue Center of New Rochelle; Ethan Goldberg, Westchester Jewish Center; Margot Goldberg, Temple Beth Abraham; Tanya Greenblatt, Temple Israel of New Rochelle; Randy Herman, Bet Torah; Robin Joseph, Temple Beth Shalom- Hastings; Hayley Kobilinsky, Congregation B’nai Yisrael; Janet Leuchter, Greenburgh Hebrew Center; Jack Mendelson, Temple Israel Center of White Plains; Fredda Mendelson, Larchmont Temple; David Rosen, Congregation Kol Ami; Michelle Rubin, Montabello Jewish Center; Tracey Scher, Larchmont Temple; Alexis Sklar, Congregation Kneses Tifereth Israel; Alan Sokoloff; Elizabeth Sternlieb, Sinai Free Synagogue; Meredith Stone, Congregation Emanu-El; Sarah Zemel, and Star Trompeter, Temple Beth El of Northern Westchester. The music will range from contemporary to traditional, Jewish to secular, and rap to rock.

Cantor Jack Mendelson, Cantor Emeritus of Temple Israel Center of White Plains and one of the leading cantorial masters of our generation, will be the special guest emcee for the evening. “We are honored that Cantor Mendelson will not only bring his great talent and personality to the evening, but will also add his special brand of humor for all to enjoy”, said Elliot Forchheimer, Executive Director of the Westchester Jewish Council.

“The Jewish People have been using music to appreciate nature, give thanks for our blessings, and to acknowledge God for creating our beautiful world and everything in it”, said Paul Warhit, President of the Westchester Jewish Council. “The Night of Music & Joy is merely the latest iteration of our using music to give life to our feelings of thanks and blessing.”

The Night of Music & Joy is open to the entire community. The concert will be followed by a dairy dessert reception. Cost is $20 per person until November 8 and $25 thereafter. Registration is available on line at www.wjcouncil.org.
