Oh Rats! 'Small Mammals' Trigger Emergency Declaration

A Sound Shore community declared a local state of emergency to "combat small mammal infestations" in a neighborhood and industrial area.

VILLAGE OF MAMARONECK, NY — In an unusual move, a Sound Shore village has declared a local state of emergency to deal with a rodent infestation.

In his declaration, Village Manager of the Village of Mamaroneck Jerry Barberio said the problems in the Washingtonville neighborhood and ajoining Fenimore industrial areas have created health, safety and welfare issues.

In the local emergency declaration, Barberio said the emergency powers will help free the village "to combat small mammal infestations including but not limited to various control methods, repeat inspections, and consistent monitoring."

This local emergency will remain in effect until August 6, unless it is rescinded by the village manager.
