Police Blotter: Daytime Stick-Up on East Prospect Avenue, Scooter Bandit and Brazen Thief Parks Stolen Scooter Down the Street

Village of Mamaroneck

Saturday, July 9

1:58 p.m. – A 24-year old village resident was issued a summons for operating a leaf blower on Madison Avenue.  There is a seasonal restriction against using leaf blowers between May and September in the Village of Mamaroneck (VOM).

2:40 p.m. – A 42-year old Elizabeth, NJ resident accosted a 24-year old village resident on East Prospect Avenue in broad daylight, robbing him of his cell phone, jewelry, and wallet.  There was no weapon used in the robbery.  Police arrested the NJ man after receiving a call from a bystander who witnessed the crime.  The perpetrator was charged with second-degree robbery, a felony, and false personation, a misdemeanor.

3:05 p.m. – The owner of a Ducati motorcycle reported that his vehicle was struck while it was parked and unoccupied in front of Brewer True Value Hardware on 161 E. Boston Post Rd.  There was minor damage to the vehicle.

9:47 p.m. – A dubious 17-year old village resident was questioned by police after he was observed brazenly parking a stolen Vespa scooter on Union Avenue, near where the owner lived.  Police were able to locate the owner of the Vespa and the male was charged with three felonies: third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and third-degree grand larceny.  The resident will return to village court shortly.

10:09 p.m. – Officers on patrol noticed a 16-year old village resident urinating in .  The resident was charged with exposure.

11:15 p.m. – A village resident reported that she had been receiving threatening phone calls.  

Sunday, July 10

2:34 a.m. – A 20-year old Town of Mamaroneck resident was stopped for a motor vehicle infraction in front of 630 Meadow St.  It was then discovered that he was driving while intoxicated, and he was arrested for DWI.  He will appear in VOM court shortly.

9:42 a.m.  – Although she didn’t observe it happening, a James Street resident believes a neighbor removed the stakes that she had erected on the Warren Avenue side of her property to prevent trespassing.  The resident believes that the neighbor was allowing her dogs to trample on her property, in the area where the stakes had previously blocked access.

3:28 p.m. – Returning from a bathroom break, a 49-year old village resident was despondent to find several items missing from his spot on , including a wallet, keys, and $300 in cash.

4:27 p.m. – The owner of a Mazda reported that his car had been struck while it was parked and unoccupied at at 1025 Cove Rd.

5:21 p.m. – After receiving a call about a man sitting in his car for an extended period of time on Walton Avenue, police arrested 23-year old Rosedale, Queens resident for third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and unlawful possession of marijuana.  He will appear in VOM court shortly.

11:21 p.m. – A Delancey Avenue resident requested that police remove an unwanted party that was known to her from her home.

Monday, July 11

5:56 p.m. – A $250 mountain bike was reported stolen from a location on Library Lane.  The complaintent declined to prosecute.

6:20 p.m. – Although police were called to a location on Halstead Avenue for a report of intoxicated teens staggering around, after interviewing the kids, police found the original report to be false.

9:18 p.m. – A resident of the area surrounding reported that the lights on the athletic field were still on after 9 p.m., despite the agreement that they would be turned off by that time. The condition was corrected.

9:30 p.m. – A resident of Munro Avenue reported her car alarm was going off for unknown reasons.  Although there was no damage or sign of forced entry to her car, the woman reported that her vehicle had been damaged in the past and that she thought a neighbor might be the culprit.

9:48 p.m. – In a confusing series of events, a burglar alarm was blaring from a building on West Boston Post Road and, simultaneously, police observed three people about to engage in a fight, one of whom was a resident of the building.  Police determined that the alarm was unrelated to the three bystanders, and no arrests were made.
