Police Blotter: Flaming Garbage Can, Rent Dispute Turns Ugly and Cross At Your Own Risk

Friday, July 29
12:48 a.m. – After he was stopped for a routine motor vehicle violation on West Boston Post Road, a 50-year old Yonkers man was arrested and charged with DWI. He will need to appear in village court at a later date.

12:50 a.m. – Uncertain where she originally parked, a woman requested assistance with locating her car on the 700 block of Jefferson Avenue.
2:17 a.m. – A flaming garbage can both alerted and propelled a security guard on Bleeker Avenue into action, as he suffocated the flames before police arrived.

8:09 a.m. – Police on routine patrol came across a graffiti tag on a building on Rockland Avenue.
4:31 p.m. – A wallet separated from it’s owner was given to a policeman by the person who found it on 155 Mamaroneck Ave., near . Police were unable to contact the wallet’s owner and are holding it for pick-up.
Saturday, July 30
12:37 a.m. – A 43-year old New Rochelle man was stopped by police for a motor vehicle infraction on 136 W. Boston Post Rd., near . The officer smelled marijuana and searched both the man and his passenger, a 43-year old West Babylon man. They were both were issued appearance tickets for unlawful possession of marijuana and are due back in village court.
9:11 a.m. – While crossing the street in the crosswalk near McDonald's at 1205 W. Boston Post Rd., a 51-year old Stamford, CT resident was hit by a 34-year old woman driving a Jeep. The woman was taken to Sound Shore Hospital with leg injuries; no summonses were issued.
9:17 a.m. – While visiting Mamaroneck from Massachusetts, a woman misplaced her wallet. It wasn’t until she returned home that she reported it missing from a location on East Boston Post Road, the last place she remembered having it. The incident was documented only.
12:12 p.m. – A Jefferson Avenue woman eagerly anticipating her tax refund contacted the government to check on it’s status and was informed that someone had attempted to use her name for a fraudulent tax filing. No money was lost.
1:22 p.m. – A Knollwood Avenue resident reported damage to their front door as if someone was attempting to break in. No entry was made.
Sunday, July 31
12:14 a.m. – Despite several warnings from police to turn his music down, numerous complaints continued to stream into the police station from annoyed neighbors on Alda Road. Police issued the 44-year old man a summons for a noise ordinance violation.
9:04 p.m. – A 52-year old village resident was charged with disorderly conduct for screaming obscenities at a location on Jefferson Avenue.
9:39 p.m. – An intoxicated person on West Boston Post Road was taken to the hospital.
Monday, August 1
8:15 a.m. – A vehicle parked on Carroll Avenue with it’s windows left open was entered anytime between July 31 at 7:30 p.m. and August 1 at 7:30 a.m., and prescription medication was taken. There was no forced entry.
8:26 a.m. – A truck became lodged under the bridge on Fenimore Avenue. Vincent’s Garage and Metro-North police responded.
11:06 a.m. – A woman claimed that her 2009 Honda was damaged by a weed trimmer being used on Washington Street. The property owner denied the damage.
3:34 p.m. – A 37-year old disgruntled tenant on West Boston Post Road was arrested and charged with harassment after he engaged in a heated screaming and pushing match with his landlord—who lives next door— and a bystander, over rent.
7:50 p.m. – A raucous party in the rear parking lot of a location on East Prospect Avenue was broken up by police.
8:06 p.m. – A 49-year old village resident was issued a violation for operating a leaf blower on Pine Knoll Lane.
