Police Blotter: Hamster Rescuer Rebuffed, Bike Switch and "It Wasn't Me"

The following arrest information was supplied by the Village and Town of Mamaroneck police departments. It does not indicate a conviction.

Village of Mamaroneck

Monday, June 13

11:09 a.m. – A smash-up between a Honda Odyssey minivan and a Toyota Camry occurred in front of the   A 67-year old Harrison resident driving the Camry rear-ended a 41-year old New Rochelle resident driving the Odyssey.  Both women were treated at the scene for minor chest pain.

2:26 p.m. – An employee of told a woman claiming to be from a “hamster rescue” that she was not welcome in the store.  The hamster rescuer was gone when police arrived.

2:30 p.m. – Police received a complaint of a suspicious male circling people’s driveways on his bike on Old Post Road.  The male was gone when police arrived.

4:45 p.m. – Police on routine patrol noticed a spray-painted, yet non-profane, graffiti tag on a building on the 500 block of Halstead Avenue.

9:30 p.m. – Several suspicious males were spotted peering into cars on Halstead Avenue for unknown reasons. The males had departed when police arrived.

Tuesday, June 14

1:47 a.m. – A 17-year old West Harrison resident was pulled over for an equipment violation on 155 Halstead Ave., near .  He was then arrested and charged with DWI and later ROR’d (released on his own recognizance).  He is due back in village court soon.

4:54 a.m. – Another spray-painted graffiti tag was spotted on the 500 block of Center Avenue in the early hours of the morning.

2:05 pm. – A woman reported the loss of her black leather wallet at the   The wallet contained—among other things—a Rhode Island driver’s license, multiple credit cards, and $400 in cash.  She reported the loss for documentation purposes only.

3:50 p.m. – Police investigated a report of illegal dumping on North Barry Avenue.  The homeowner—who had just recently moved in—said that the landscapers were in the process of cleaning up the property, but that no dumping had occurred. Police advised the homeowner that no debris could be dumped into the nearby river. 

5:07 p.m. – The owner of a Toyota Sienna parked on Florence Street damage to the driver’s side right bumper after the car was parked and unoccupied for several hours.

8:23 p.m. – Halstead Avenue residents reported that their $600 Samsung computer tablet was missing from their home; they believe the culprit was someone that was at their house earlier. 

11:52 p.m. – Police responded to a complaint of a raucous party on the Parkway. Upon investigation, police arrested a 19-year old man from the village for unlawful possession of marijuana.

11:56 p.m. – A dispute over cab fare on the 100 block of Halstead Avenue was settled amenably by police.

Sunday, June 12

2:13 p.m. – A resident of Huguenot Drive reported a $1,160 loss of property from his driveway, a fourth-degree grand theft larceny. The losses included $1,000 Cobra golf clubs and bag, a $100 Mizuno baseball bat, a $30 Sony Walkman and $30 baseballs.   

Tuesday, June 14

8:02 a.m. – After leaving a $500 Raleigh mountain bike on a rack in front of his residence on Forest Avenue, the owner of said bike reported that he later noticed that it had been swapped out for a lesser model Magna Great Divide mountain bike of unknown value.
