Police Blotter: Mysterious Backpack Drop-Off, Stolen Car and Drunk Supermarket Run

Village of Mamaroneck

Monday, April 25

1:28 p.m. – A piece of rubber matting was cut out and removed from a playground area on Harrison Avenue between April 15-April 19.

3:37 p.m. – After receiving a call about a suspicious package on the southbound steps of Depot Plaza, police discovered an unattended camouflage backpack containing grocery items and articles of clothing.  Calls placed to the person whose name was emblazoned on the front of the pack went unreturned.

Tuesday, April 26

6:40 p.m. – A resident of the 700 block of Palmer Terrace reported that the passenger side of his 2009 Nissan Murano was keyed while parked in the Jefferson Avenue commuter lot.

6:50 p.m.- A Halstead Avenue resident reported that his locked bike—worth approximately $800—was stolen from the northbound side of the Metro-North train station. 

8:41 p.m. – A 17-year old Mamaroneck resident was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana at Columbus Park.

9:44 p.m. – After an intoxicated woman was observed weaving through the aisles of the A&P on 805 Mamaroneck Ave., a complaint was called in to police.  The woman said she was, “upset due to private matters in her life,” and was escorted home, at her request.

Wednesday, April 27

12:11 p.m. – A 29-year old New Rochelle resident unknowingly struck a 26-year old male riding his bike on the 1000 block of Mamaroneck Avenue.  The New Rochelle resident was issued summonses for unlicensed operation and leaving the scene of an accident.  The biker refused medical treatment.

3:24 p.m. – Later the same day, across town, a 17-year old village resident smashed her vehicle into a wall in front of the Beach Point Club on 900 Rushmore Ave. after she mistakenly hit the gas pedal with too much force.  Both the village resident and her passenger—a 15-year old Larchmont resident—suffered facial contusions. They both refused medical treatment.

6:12 p.m. – A person was observed dumping garbage into the water on Anita Lane.  Although no specific violation was observed, the person stated he’d clean up the garbage. 

Thursday, April 28

7:37 a.m. – A 2009 Hyundai Tucson was stolen from the driveway of a residence on the 700 block of Hall Street during the night.

5:13 p.m. – A rabid raccoon attempted to enter the backyard of a residence on Green Meadow Lane.  The raccoon was gone when police arrived.

Friday, April 29

8:10 p.m. – A 54-year old Village of Mamaroneck resident was arrested for swiping a 10-pack of sleeping pills from the CVS on 1310 Boston Post Rd.
