Police Blotter: Stolen Car Retrieved, Mysterious Backyard Bones and Car vs. Building

Sunday, April 30

12:47 a.m. – A 32-year old Village of Mamaroneck resident was arrested for third-degree assault after he cracked another individual in the face and broke his nose. The incident occurred on the 200 block of Halstead Avenue.

2:00 a.m. – Approximately 30 people—crammed into two rooms at the Mamaroneck Motel on 1015 W. Boston Post Rd.—were creating a ruckus that refused to be quelled.  The group departed when police arrived.

5:08 a.m. – A 26-year old Village of Mamaroneck resident was arrested for DWI on Mamaroneck Avenue.

10:07 a.m. – Three mailboxes on Hommocks Road in Larchmont had damage to them from unknown individuals.

10:59 a.m. – A bold thief absconded with a purse from a Prospect Avenue resident’s home and, rather than call a taxi to get where he was going, drove the resident’s 2006 Buick to his destination.  The Buick was found—locked and undamaged—in Mt. Vernon.  The case is under investigation.  There were no signs of forced entry at the residence.

Monday, May 1

12:20 a.m. – A vehicle parked on Walton Avenue was egged anytime between April 30 at 9 a.m. and May 1 at 12 a.m. 

7:38 a.m. – An abandoned vehicle was reported at Top of the Ridge Road.  The car had reportedly been parked at that location since April 22.

3:17 p.m. – After digging up unidentified bones in his backyard, a Melbourne Avenue resident contacted police.  Fortunately, the bones were identified as belonging to an animal and not a human, and were presumably from a horse that the previous owner had on his property.

10:55 p.m. – After a resident of the 1200 block of West Boston Post Road reported hearing loud popping noises from fireworks coming from a residence on the 100 or 200 block of Richbell Road, police came to the area to investigate.  They were unable to pinpoint the location of the fireworks.

Tuesday, May 2

8:02 p.m. – A woman complained that she left her ring at a business on the 600 block of East Boston Post Road on April 30.  When she returned, the ring was gone.

Wednesday, May 3

9:40 a.m. – A handicapped parking permit was taken from an unlocked car parked on the 600 block of West Boston Post Road on April 2 at 6 p.m.

2:25 p.m. – was initially taken into custody by Yonkers police, however, he was then transferred to Village of Mamaroneck (VOM) police after he was found to have three outstanding bench warrants on two separate dates from the VOM.

6:00 p.m. – A $350 bike was taken from a residence on Mount Pleasant Avenue between 3-5 p.m.  

9:13 p.m. – A driver reported that his passenger side window was broken when an unknown projectile struck it while the car was in motion on the 400 block of Mount Pleasant Avenue.

Thursday, May 4

10:20 a.m. – After police spotted a passenger tossing his cigarette butt from the rear window of a vehicle on Jefferson Avenue, the passenger was issued a village code violation for littering.

6:41 p.m. – A $200 cell phone was taken from a backpack at a location on the 1000 block of West Boston Post Road.

Friday, May 5

1:56 p.m. – A woman fell off her scooter on Phillips Park Road, apparently unscathed, and walked toward Mamaroneck Avenue through the CVS alley.  Although the woman refused medical treatment at the scene of the accident, she later reconsidered and came to police headquarters to request an ambulance for a head injury.

8:54 p.m. – A 22-year old Rye resident driving a Toyota Camry smashed into a Toyota Corolla driven by a 62-year old Mamaroneck resident, while traveling on East Boston Post Road.  The force of the impact ricocheted the Camry into the side of the Healthy Fit for Women gym on 1000 E. Boston Post Rd. Both the driver of the Camry and a 13-year old passenger in his car were taken to Sound Shore for pain.  The driver of the Corolla had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters, and was taken to Sound Shore Hospital for chest and hip pain.  No summonses were issued.

Monday, May 2

12:01 p.m. – The TOM Highway Department found a damaged street light on Old White Plains Road.  Damage to the exterior hardware was estimated at $275.

12:23 p.m. – After a 53-year old Valley Road resident received notification by Citibank that a 24-year old Bronx resident had attempted to cash a $450 check in her name, the resident reported the fraudulent activity to police.
