Police Blotter: Suspicious Package and $3K in Missing Gadgets

The following arrest information was supplied by the Village and Town of Mamaroneck police departments. It does not indicate a conviction.

Tuesday, May 31

2:56 p.m. – Police checked on the well being of a woman snoozing in her car on Mamaroneck Avenue.  The woman had just driven to Mamaroneck from Long Island and was napping before a meeting in White Plains.

Wednesday, June 1

12:26 p.m. – A Warren Avenue resident contacted police to ask her friend to leave her basement—where he had been residing since May 14—after he failed to pay the $100 per week rent that she was charging.  The friend took his belongings and departed while police were there.  The case was referred to civil court.

2:04 p.m. – After receiving a call that a man was attempting to break into a Jeep on Rockland Avenue, police observed the man attempting to gain entry to the car by smashing a window.  The man fled when he saw the police.

2:50 p.m. – A truck exceeding the posted height requirements got stuck under the bridge on Fenimore Road.  The Metro-North police were notified and responded accordingly.

4:57 p.m. – While on routine patrol, police saw a 35-year old man with an open container of alcohol on Union Avenue.  The man was issued a village code summons for the open container.

7:43 p.m. – Police were contacted about a suspicious package left unattended on Mamaroneck Avenue.  After an investigation that concluded at 8:08 p.m., the package turned out to be an old Polaroid camera.

Tuesday, May 31

8:10 a.m. – Some graffiti was painted on the playground at the Murray Avenue School anytime between May 27 and May 31.

6:45 p.m. – A woman’s green $175 Huffy beach cruiser bike was stolen from an outside storage shed in the rear parking lot of an apartment building at 1448 Boston Post Rd.

Thursday, June 2

1:33 p.m. – A Wagon Wheel Road resident reported $3,100 worth of missing items from his home, including a $100 MP4 player, a $300 Xbox 360, a $200 iPod touch, a $900 HP laptop computer and a $1,600 Mac laptop computer.  The case is being investigated as a third degree grand larceny, a class D felony, as the value of the stolen property exceeded $3,000.
