Police Blotter: Water Balloon Lobbed At Unsuspecting Bystander, Marijuana Arrests and Private Fireworks Show

The following arrest information was supplied by the Village and Town of Mamaroneck police departments. It does not indicate a conviction.

Village of Mamaroneck

Tuesday, July 12

12:59 a.m. – Police received a complaint of fireworks being set off at the 16th hole of the Fairway Green.  The perpetrators were gone when police arrived.

11:35 a.m. – After hitting a Mack Truck in front of 315 Northrup Ave., a 47-year old New Rochelle resident fled the scene in a GMC van.  The man was later spotted by the original complaintent, who called in the driver’s location to police. The man was issued a summons for leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

12:21 p.m. – A Mercedes Benz parked on Spruce Street was damaged by a large branch that fell off of a tree located on 320 Boston Post Rd.

5:08 p.m. – Officers on routine patrol issued a 57-year old homeless man a village violation for an open container of alcohol in front of 656 Van Ranst Pl., near .

11:35 p.m. – Two New Rochelle residents were arrested on drug charges on Madison Street after officers on patrol saw one of the men smoking a joint.  One man, 24, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and the other man, 19, who was caught smoking, was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana. 

Wednesday, July 13

12:07 a.m. – A rowdy bunch of kids were charged with disorderly conduct after they lobbed a water balloon at an unsuspecting man walking down Stanley Avenue.  Four kids—a 16 and 17-year old from the Town of Mamaroneck, a 17-year old from the village and a 17-year old from Larchmont—were stopped by police as they drove away from the scene.

2:18 a.m. – After a traffic stop for a motor vehicle violation, a 59-year old village resident was arrested and charged with DWI.

10:10 a.m. – A village summons was issued for the unlawful use of a backpack leaf blower on Rockland Avenue.  The resident will return to village court on July 19.

10:43 a.m. – During the overnight hours, officers reported that there was graffiti on a building on the 600 block of Waverly Avenue.

5:58 p.m. – A heavy smoke condition was reported at 490 Bleeker Ave., believed to be the result of burning mulch.  The fire department corrected the condition.

9:40 p.m. – The same 57-year old homeless man as listed in a previous incident was issued another violation for an open container of alcohol on the southbound platform of the Metro North train station.

11:05 p.m. – A man pulled over for a routine motor vehicle violation, in front of 159 W. Boston Post Rd., was found to be an unlicensed driver.  He was arrested and is due back in village court.

Thursday, July 14

2:18 a.m. – A resident of Livingston Avenue reported that two parties were loudly sparring in the street.  Both were gone when police arrived.

8:33 a.m. – A 30-year old village resident was formally charged with second degree assault, a felony, after an investigation was completed, and was arraigned in village court. The incident occurred on

9:15 a.m. – Two people who had warrants out for their arrest were brought into police headquarters.  No further information was provided.

1:51 p.m. – A truck got stuck under the bridge on Fenimore Road.  Metro-North (MTA) police responded to the scene.

5:00 p.m. – A Hall Street resident reported that a 50-year old man suddenly deposited the bike he was riding on her neighbor’s lawn, and walked away.  She said there had been many larcenies in the area and thought the incident was suspicious.  The bike was taken into police headquarters as found property.

5:21 p.m. – Officers on patrol detected the unmistakable odor of marijuana at Station Plaza.  Upon further investigation, they arrested and charged a 27-year old New Rochelle resident with unlawful possession of marijuana.

9:17 p.m. – After returning home to find their front door wide open, residents of a home on Mamaroneck Avenue contacted police.  There were no missing items discovered.

9:30 p.m. – Another resident—of a home on Beach Avenue—found their door open upon returning home.  Nothing was reported missing.

10:40 p.m. – Police received a report that a man was ringing doorbells on Hall Street.  The condition was corrected.

Tuesday, July 12

1:35 p.m. – After a 48-year old woman driving a 2003 Lexus smashed into a 2006 Honda on 11 Alden Rd., she claimed that—while attempting to park—she had blacked out, and could not recall what happened.
