President, NBC Olympics, Discusses the Business of Sports
Gary Zenkel, President, NBC Olympics & Broadcaster Jimmy Roberts Share Insights into the Business of Sports at UJA Westchester Breakfast
Gary Zenkel, President, NBC Olympics and Business and Emmy-award winning NBC sportscaster Jimmy Roberts discussed the business of the Olympics, including the process for acquiring the rights to broadcast the Games, the increase in hours of Olympic coverage, and the changing media landscape, at UJA-Federation of New York's Westchester Business and Professional Division Fall Breakfast. The event took place on Friday, November 2, 2018, at Willow Ridge Country Club in Harrison.
Mr. Zenkel joined NBC Sports in 1990 as director of sports contract negotiations, working his way up the corporate ladder to his role today overseeing the legal, business affairs, strategy and operations functions for NBC Sports Group. From Major League Baseball to Olympic and Paralympic Games, Mr. Zenkel played major roles in countless media rights acquisitions, contract negotiations, and renewals.
Susan Lewen, Chief Development Officer at Westchester Jewish Community Services, one of UJA's nonprofit partners, and Ruth Denton, parent of a participant in the Amazing Afternoons after school sports program spoke to the gathering about the very positive impact the program is having in our own back yard. Dan Schorr of White Plains, who co-chaired the event with Jill Greenspan of Armonkcommented, "UJA, through its Sports for Youth initiative, plays a vital role in the world of sports in its own way – by leveling the playing field for kids of all backgrounds and abilities."
