Since its inception, the Bee has attracted large numbers of residents, both as participants and spectators. According to Bee organizer Ellie Fredston, “Friends of the Larchmont Public Library is once again pleased to sponsor the Spelling Bee and delighted by the enthusiastic support of the community. It is a fun event, and we encourage the formation of both adult and teen teams to participate this year.” Fredston noted that the Friends of the Larchmont Public Library’s mission is to help fund Larchmont Library programs and equipment not covered in the budget.

Lou Young, Larchmont resident and CBS-TV news personality, returns as the Master of Ceremonies. George Latimer, New York State Senator; Lorraine Walsh, Larchmont Mayor; and Nancy Seligson, Mamaroneck Town Supervisor will serve as Bee judges. Larchmont’s Fifth Annual Spelling Bee is sponsored by Houlihan Lawrence and Ray Catena Lexus of Larchmont.

In 2016, sixteen teams participated in the Fourth Annual Spelling Bee. The winning team was “LAC Chior” [sic] comprised of team members Nigel Holloway, Douglas Kostner and Marjorie Lindblom. The winning word was “sarsaparilla.”
