Young People Perform Live Poetry at Mamaroneck's Emelin Theatre
The Poetry Live! event will take place on April 28 at 2:30 p.m.

On Sunday, April 28, 45 aspiring young poets in grades 5-12 from Mamaroneck, Bedford and Thornwood schools will read their works to a live audience at the Emelin Theatre in Mamaroneck.
The program—which was started by Mamaroneck Poet Laureate Mary Louise Cox in 2002 to celebrate National Poetry Month—was developed as a way to encourage young people to nurture their writing ambitions.

"The goals of the program are to increase awareness of poetry as a viable and accessible means of communication, to expose participants and the audience to a range of poetic expressions and Poets Laureate, and to encourage students in the art of poetic thinking and writing," said Phyllis Gutterman of the Village of Mamaroneck Arts Council.
Not only will the show be taped by LMC-TV, but a written anthology of all poems presented will be published.
