St. John's Part of NY Landmarks Conservancy Sacred Sites Open House

Discover the incredible art, architecture, and history found at St. John's Episcopal Church July 23-24

St. John’s Episcopal Church in Larchmont will be one of dozens of religious institutions throughout New York State participating in the New York Landmarks Conservancy’s 12th annual Sacred Sites Open House Weekend July 23-24. According to the New York Landmarks Conservancy, a private non-profit organization, the week-end will be “a celebration of the art, architecture, and history of New York State’s amazing ecclesiastical buildings.”

This is the first time that a religious institution in our community will be participating in this event. Visitors are invited to visit St. John’s Episcopal Church and Campus, located at 4 Fountain Square in Larchmont, on Saturday and Sunday, July 23 and 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. when volunteers will be on site to share St. John’s history, art and architecture.

St. John’s Episcopal Church is a dramatic example of Gothic Architecture dating back to 1894, when the first cornerstone was laid by the Rt. Rev. Henry C. Potter, Bishop of the Diocese of New York. St. John’s was erected in the English Gothic Revival Style of rusticated stones for the exterior, a soaring nave with brackets and arches and an artistic treasure of stained-glass windows. The Church, a legacy of spiritual presence to the community and the larger world, is an anchor to the neighborhood of Fountain Square, in Larchmont Manor.
