The Twelfth Victim—A Decade After 9/11
Remembering those from our community who were lost on 9/11.

“Memory Rock,” the humble memorial to the 12 Larchmont-Mamaroneck victims who lost their lives on that fateful day ten years ago, is shown here. 11 of the 12 had a life to live, a memoir only half-told. But one local victim—the twelfth victim, if you will—had not even begun to draft her story upon our hearts.
A life destroyed by hatred, one victim tugs especially hard on our community’s heartstrings. No one life can possibly overshadow the other 11 tragic losses our peaceful community suffered a decade ago from the skies above our beloved Metropolis, but one certainly brings a tear to the eye 10 years later. Nobody can claim to have ever really known our community’s twelfth victim, not ever her parents. She would have been a tender 10 years of age this year, running and laughing with her friends in the schoolyard at recess, or, perhaps practicing soccer, or ballet, or some other activity for which her loving parents would be beaming with pride to watch.
We will never know—Patricia Helen Kittle was taken from us, yet unborn, on that gut-wrenching day before we had a chance to welcome her to our harbor’s shores. Rest in peace Patricia, along with your 11 other brothers and sisters of the community…you are all missed dearly.

Larchmont-Mamaroneck Patch is gathering local images of 9/11 and its aftermath. If you have images related to this day in our nation's history—whether it be a train ticket you were carrying in your pocket that day, a keepsake from a loved one or even a photo of where you were on 9/11, we'd like to include it in our gallery. We're also looking for people to interview who have a moving and engaging story to tell about Sept. 11. If you started a charity to help local 9/11 families or first responders, if you decided to become a police officer or joined the Armed Services because of 9/11, or if your life has been indelibly changed by the events of that day, we want to hear from you. Email stefani.kim@patch.com if interested.
