Tour Hemingway’s Paris in April

Join Elizabeth Kemble at the Larchmont Public Library on Monday, April 3 at 7:00pm, for an illustrated "tour" of the Paris Hemingway loved

Paris is for strolling and people watching, and sitting at a café with a friend. It is the mecca of an haute couture world obsessed with the aesthetics of everything: food, fashion, horticulture and lighting. It is an enduring home to the penurious artists and writers who flock to its cafés for solitary musings or animated companionship. Paris evokes a myriad of passions.

Join Elizabeth Kemble at the Larchmont Public Library on Monday, April 3 at 7:00pm, for an illustrated “tour” of the Paris Hemingway knew and loved.

During her presentation, Liz will share the places that Hemingway frequented in Paris, such as La Closerie des Lilas, the café where he wrote his masterpiece, The Sun Also Rises, in a coffee fueled six-week sprint. She will also talk about the famous people he associated with, such as Gertrude Stein and F. Scott Fitzgerald and the painters that he says influenced his prose style (hint: Cézanne). Liz will focus on the places where Hemingway lived, worked, and partied, most of which are still in existence today. You’ll learn the reasons that Hemingway went to Paris and how he got the chance to meet so many famous and influential people, such as Stein and Picasso. Also discussed are his relationships with his mentors, such as Sherwood Anderson and Gertrude Stein, and with his “Paris” wives, Hadley and Pauline.
