Town of Mamaroneck Adopts Partial Property Tax Exemption
Exemption will apply to residents of the Town of Mamaroneck including both villages who serve in the TMFD or VAC

Mamaroneck NY – (May 1, 2023) – Volunteer members of the Town of Mamaroneck’s Fire Department and Ambulance Corps may be eligible to receive a partial property tax exemption with the Town Board’s passage of a local law allowing the tax break for qualifying members.
The Town Board voted unanimously on April 4 to opt into a new state law that allows for municipalities to provide the exemption for members who meet certain criteria. Eligible for exemptions under the law, are any enrolled volunteers in good standing of the Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department and Volunteer Ambulance Corps who live in the Town, including Larchmont and Mamaroneck Villages.
“We are so grateful to our volunteers for donating their time to our residents and performing a vital function here in our Town,’’ said Town Supervisor Jaine Elkind Eney. “It’s the least we can do for these men and women who put their safety on the line for us day in and day out.’’

Elkind Eney said that the exemption would amount to 10 percent of assessed value. Because of the limited number of those eligible for the benefit, "The impact on the Town budget is minimal when compared to the benefit we receive from our dedicated volunteers,” she said.
New York State enacted the legislation in December of 2022 in an effort to attract more people to volunteer as firefighters and ambulance corps members and to reward those who already perform this service. The Town had until May 1 to opt into the law. The exemption will be reflected in the 2024 Town tax bill.
