Mamaroneck Police Blotters: April 26 - May 2

Two Village residents are charged with felonies.

The Village of Mamaroneck Police Department investigated the following incidents last week:

Arrest from the court

Editor's note: A previous version of this blotter stated a local woman had been arrested on April 29, charged and remanded to the Westchester County Jail, according to information supplied by police. That information was later determined to be incorrect. The corrected report, according to police, is below.

On April 9, a complainant/victim came into Village of Mamaroneck Police Headquarters to complete a voluntary statement based on information given to investigators with the Westchester District Attorney's office. Based on those statements, charges were filed against Peter Zeigerhofer, 45, with the Village Justice Court. On April 29, Zeigerhofer, a Port Chester resident, appeared in court on criminal summons and was charged with harassment in the 2nd degree, grand larceny in the 3rd degree (D felony) and criminal contempt of court in the 1st degree (E felony). He was arrested and remanded to the Westchester County Jail.

Assault and possession of marihuana

On May 2nd, at approximately 10 p.m., Village of Mamaroneck resident Alberto Vazques, 29, was arrested and charged with possession of marihuana. Police had initially gone to him on a report that he had violated a Temporary Order of Protection, but later determined that he had not been served that order. After running a background check, police discovered a warrant, for which he was charged with assault in the second degree, a felony.

DWI

- On April 30, at approximately 11 p.m., a vehicle stop resulted in an arrest for DWI. The operator, a 29-year-old female from Pelham, was stopped by police for driving at a high rate of speed (50 mph) on West Boston Post Road. Officers had cause to arrest her for driving while intoxicated. She was issued a summons for speeding and was charged with DWI by observation and refusing to submit to a chemical test. She was released on $250 cash bail and is due back in court on May 6.

Wire down

On May 2, at approximately 3 p.m., a police officer observed a power line on fire and arcing on Mamaroneck and North Barry avenues. The Fire Department and Con Edison were notified and employees were evacuated from several businesses in the area of 955-965 Mamaroneck Avenue. All traffic was stopped on that block. The area was cleared 40 minutes later by Con Edison.

Larceny

- On April 29, a Village of Mamaroneck resident was arrested for attempting to steal groceries from the AP market on Mamaroneck Avenue. Police received a report of a female being held by the store manager for putting $73 worth of groceries in a bag and covering them with paper towels. The 31-year-old was charged with petit larceny (misdemeanor) and was issued an appearance ticket.

- Between the evening of May 1st and the morning of May 2, the driver's side view mirror of a vehicle parked on Girard Street was stolen.

Stolen vehicle recovered

- On April 29, a 1995 Acura that had been reported stolen in March was found and held for safekeeping by the New York Police Department. The vehicle had been reported missing from Rockland Avenue and the owner was notified, police said.

Bike stolen

- Between April 23-28, a locked bicycle was taken from a rack on East Boston Post Road, near F.E. Bellows Elementary School.

Larceny from vehicle

- On May 1, at approximately 11:20 p.m., two youths were stopped after police received a report that they had been seen opening car doors on Travers Avenue. The Detective Division was notified and follow up was conducted. One of the youths, 16, was charged with petit larceny (misdemeanor), released on $500 cash bail and issued an appearance ticket.

Animal complaint

- On April 29,  a coyote was seen in the backyard of a Soundview Drive residence. The animal was gone on police arrival.

Criminal mischief to vehicle

- Between the evening of May 1st and the afternoon of May 2nd, a dump truck's sideview mirror cables were sliced, and two lawn mowers were damaged. The vehicle was parked in the rear of a building on 640 Mamaroneck Ave.

In addition, police investigated:

- 12 motor vehicle accidents (two of them "hit & run")

Criminal mischief

- On May 2nd, shortly after midnight, all four tires of a 2006 Jeep Cherokee parked on Locust Terrace were punched and there were key marks on the hood of the car. This all happened in a 20-minute timeframe, the owner told police.

Petit larceny

- On April 26, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a trek bicycle valued at $300 was stolen from the basement storage area of an apartment building on Larchmont Acres.

- Between the night of April 27 and the afternoon of April 28, a $100 car radio was taken from an unlocked car parked in a driveway on Murray Avenue.
