Village Of Mamaroneck Tax Rate Is Going Down Again

Officials said there were several factors in play allowing for another lowering of the tax rate, including precise fiscal forecasting.

In mid-March of 2024, as mandated by state law, the village manager will release the 2024-2025 tentative budget with the village’s clerk-treasurer.

MAMARONECK, NY — For the second year in a row, Village of Mamaroneck residents will see a tax rate decrease in the budget.

The tax rate decrease is 4.193 percent for the 2023-2024 budget, continuing a trend. The 5-year average decrease in the village is 2.1116 percent.

"Over the last five years, we have bonded over $35 million, while decreasing taxes," Village Manger Jerry Barberio said in a statement released on Wednesday. "As we continue to provide services at a very high level and deal with frequent disasters, the Village’s Board of Trustees has been able to reinvest $35 million in capital while reducing taxes."

Officials said there were several factors in play that allowed for another lowering of the tax rate. Effective expenditure forecasting by department heads, informed revenue analysis by the manager’s and the clerk-treasurer’s staff, and the valuations set by the Town of Mamaroneck and the Town of Rye helped set the stage for the tax decrease.

"I want to thank the Village’s Board of Trustees, Department Heads and staff, and the Budget Committee for their support," Barberio said.

In mid-March of 2024, as mandated by New York State, the village manager will release the 2024-2025 tentative budget with the clerk-treasurer. Following the release of the tentative budget, two public hearings will be scheduled, as well as five work sessions focusing on each village department. A list of hearing dates and work sessions will be announced on the village’s website around mid-March 2024.

"I am thrilled that the Village is in such a healthy fiscal condition," Mayor Tom Murphy said. "This will help us continue to give first class service while keeping taxes under control."

An earlier version of this report incorrectly identified the 2023-2024 budget as a "tentative budget."
