Town and Village of Mamaroneck Police Blotters

There were four DWI arrests, one of them aggravated, in the village this week.

Here's what the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department reported for the week starting on Jan. 18, 2010:

DWIs:

- On Jan. 22nd, at approximately 3:56 a.m., a 30-year-old woman from the Bronx was traveling westbound on the Old Post Road, near the intersection with Boston Post Road, when she struck a tree, the woman told police. Another vehicle had suddenly driven out of a driveway, she said, causing her to veer left and hit the tree. She refused medical attention. Police found her to be under the influence of alcohol. Consequently, she was arrested, charged with DWI and released on $250 bail. She is due to appear in court on Thursday, Jan. 28.

- On Jan. 23, at approximately 12:50 a.m., police reported that a driver had gone through a red light near 540 Mamaroneck Ave. Upon stopping the driver, police arrested him for being under the influence of alcohol. The 23-year-old man from Harrison took the data master test upon arriving at the Police Department and was found to have 0.08 of one percent or more of alcohol in his blood. He was charged with two counts of DWI and was later released. He is due back in court on Jan. 28th. 

- On Jan. 23rd, at approximately 2:25 a.m., police stopped a vehicle for making a prohibited u-turn near 335 Mamaroneck Ave. Upon determining that the subject was driving while intoxicated, the 53-year-old male from Durham, NY, was arrested. He took the data master test and proved to have a blood alcohol content of 0.18 of 1 percent or more. He was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated.

- On Jan. 25th, at about 12:53 a.m., a police officer reported that a vehicle had damaged property on Center Avenue. The subject, a 20-year-old female from the Village of Mamaroneck, said she had missed a turn and collided with the guard rail. An ambulance was called to the scene, but the woman refused medical attention. Police noted that she had been drinking in her vehicle and arrested her for DWI. After taking the master data test, she was charged with drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle and having more than 0.08 of 1 percent of alcohol in her blood. 

 

Motor Vehicle Accidents:

- On Jan. 20th, at about 11:54 a.m., it was reported that a Westchester County worker, who had parked at a work site in Harbor Island Park, started following his vehicle after seeing that it was rolling toward traffic. In an attempt to stop the moving car, which made contact with a sign post, the worker injured his hand, police said. He received medical attention. No other injuries or damage were reported.  

 

Suspicious Incidents:

- On Jan. 20th, at about 10:30 p.m., police were notified of a possible transformer explosion resulting in a brief power outage on the 100 block of Fenimore Road. ConEd was in the area and determined that the cause of the explosion had been a blown fuse. 


Criminal Mischief:

- On Jan. 18, at midday, it was reported that the back of a building on Ogden Avenue had been vandalized with graffiti.

- On Jan. 24, at about 3:30 p.m., graffiti was found on the back of a van in a parking lot at 621 E Boston Post Rd, police said. 

- On Jan. 25, at approximately 8 a.m., a resident reported that her car, which she had parked on the 300 block of Florence Street the night prior, had the front and rear windshields broken.  

 

Larceny:

- On Jan. 19, at about 5:23 p.m., a Florence Street resident reported that a package, which had been delivered by UPS, had been taken from the resident's porch.

- On Jan. 24th, at about 9:30 a.m., it was reported that a cable having to do with a generator at Harbor Island Park had been stolen. 

 

Theft of Service:

- On Jan. 23, at about 1:56 a.m., it was reported that a white male who had been picked up by a taxi in Stamford, Conn., got out of the vehicle on Spencer Place and fled without paying the driver, police said. The subject was not found.

 

Disorderly Person:

- On Jan. 23, at about 2:58 a.m., police noticed a disorderly person that was "cursing" and "disturbing people" near 327 Mamaroneck Ave. At the time of her arrest, police found that the 59-year-old woman from the Bronx was also intoxicated.  Upon arriving at the Police Department, the woman said she was having difficulty breathing, police said. An ambulance was called and took her to a nearby hospital. She was issued an appearance ticket for Jan. 28. 

 

Hazardous Condition:

- On Jan. 23, at about 8:50 a.m., a police officer advised of a large amount of gravel from a pot hole ot the 100 block of Mamaroneck Ave. A Department of Public Works forman was notified. The situation has been corrected. 

 

Youth Complaint:

- On Jan. 21, at around 9:32 p.m., there was a complaint regarding youth throwing eggs out of a black SUV on the 600 block of Shore Acres Rd., police said. 

- On Jan. 23rd, at about 7:23 p.m., three youths at 238 Knollwood Ave. admitted to have pointed a laser light into people's houses. The youths' parents were spoken to and the youths were released to them. 

In addition, there were a few impounds and hit and run incidents, one minor home burglary involving a subject known by the complainant, and a few arrests for driving with suspended licenses. 

 

The Town of Mamaroneck Police Department reported fewer incidents for that same week:

Petit Larceny:

- On Jan. 16, at approximately 12:50 p.m., a 57-year-old man was seen trying to steal several items from the Stop & Shop at 1326 Boston Post Rd. in Mamaroneck, police said. A store employee reported that the subject, who's been identified as Ricardo A. Rodrigues, was carrying ten 12 packs of Heineken beer, one 12 pack of Budweiser and two other items in a shopping cart. The total cost of the items was $223. The employee tried to stop Rodrigues outside, but Rodrigues left the cart and ran away, police said. 

Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree:

- On Jan. 24, at about 7:50 p.m., a Mount Vernon resident reported that his vehicle had been damaged while parked outside of 2425 Boston Post Rd. The windshield and two side windows were broken, police said. The investigation continues.
