Village and Town of Mamaroneck Police Blotters

A man wearing a USPS uniform tries to cash a $5,000 check; a few residents report burglaries.

This past week, the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department investigated the following incidents:

Burglary

- On Feb. 8, a business owner on Northrup Avenue reported that an unknown person had gained unauthorized access to his business between Feb. 6th and Feb. 8th. Some power tools were missing, the owner told police.  There were no signs of forced entry.

- On Feb. 9th, a North Barry Avenue resident reported hearing someone tampering with the apartment door while the person was inside. Nothing was reported missing. No further details are available. 

- On Feb. 11, Fayette Avenue residents reported that someone had entered their home and stolen jewelry, police said. The door lock had been broken in the past, so the door was unlocked at the time this was reported. There were no signs of forced entry.

- On Feb. 12, a Mamaroneck Avenue resident reported that between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. a male had forced open the door to their apartment while someone was in it. Upon seeing the other person, the alleged burglar fled, according to police reports. Police arrived on the scene and noticed that another apartment door was unlocked. Upon investigation, it was learned that the apartment had been forcefully entered while the resident was away. No items were reported missing. 

Forgery

- On Feb. 12, at 9:47 a.m., a black male wearing a USPS uniform was arrested at the local Chase Bank on East Boston Post Road for attempting to cash a fraudulent check in the amount of $5,000. The subject is Ojudun Oluwole, 23. His provenance has not been disclosed as the matter is still under investigation, and it is not known at this time whether or not he was a USPS employee. The bank had been alert for the possibility of such activity, police said. 

Larceny

- On Feb. 8, an individual reported an unauthorized purchase of about $300 with her credit card. The investigation continues. 

Motor Vehicle Accident

- On Feb. 8, a vehicle traveling south on Harrison Avenue overturned, the passenger told police. The driver mistakenly hit the gas pedal instead of the breaks, causing the vehicle to go up the hill, flip over and strike a tree, she said. The Fire Department reported to the scene and extricated both the driver and the passenger. They were transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. 

Criminal Mischief

- On Feb. 8th, at about 10:30 a.m., it was reported that an unknown individual had thrown a beer bottle against a business' window on Mamaroneck Avenue, breaking the glass, but not damaging anything inside the business, police said.  

Vehicle and Traffic Violations

- There was one arrest for driving without a license and a suspended registration; one arrest for driving without a headlight, without car insurance, with an expired inspection and for unlawful possession of marihuana; and one arrest for driving with a suspended license. 

Identity Theft

- On Feb. 11, it was reported that an unknown subject had obtained the victim's bank account information and spent an undisclosed amount of money from the account, police said. 

In addition, police also reported: 

- One aggravated harassment case

- One domestic dispute that required medical assistance

- 6 motor vehicle accidents

- 7 vehicle impounds

This past week, the Town of Mamaroneck Police Department investigated the following incidents:

- 5 motor vehicle accidents

- 2 domestic disputes resulting in arrests
