VOM Police Blotter: Resident Attempts Robbery, Assaults Man

Two drunk drivers are involved in motor vehicle accidents, and are arrested. A Connecticut female assaults a man in the village.

Between July 5 - 11, the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department investigated the following incidents:

Robbery/Assault

On July 5, at approximately 11:20 p.m., an officer on patrol stopped at the intersection of Mamaroneck and Hoyt avenues after observing a male known to him swinging at another male. The victim was hit and thrown to the ground, police said. Upon investigation, it was learned that the offender, Burt Billinger, was actively in the process of committing a robbery. The 37-year-old resident of the village was arrested and charged with third-degree attempted robbery, felony, and third-degree assault, misdemeanor.

Assault

On July 9, a Connecticut resident was arrested for assaulting a man with a knife. Imogene Smith, 49, slightly injured the victim with the weapon. She was charged with second-degree assault, felony, and second-degree menacing, misdemeanor. The victim refused medical attention.

Motor vehicle accidents with injuries

-       On July 7, at approximately 11:40 a.m., as a result of an accident involving three vehicles on the 600 block of West Boston Post Road, one of the drivers complained of neck pain and was taken to the hospital.

-       On July 7, at approximately 12:10 p.m., a village resident hit a pedestrian with her vehicle while driving while intoxicated, according to police. The 63-year-old female told police she was turning right onto Richbell Road when she saw a truck driving toward her, so she swerved to the right, and consequently hit a pedestrian and another vehicle. She was slightly injured, according to police reports. The pedestrian, a Yonkers resident, told police that he was struck in the legs as he was turning away from the trunk of his car. The other vehicle pinned him against the rear of his vehicle, he said. The female driver was charged with DWI and Aggravated DWI, misdemeanor. At the time of the incident, the seriousness of the pedestrian's injuries were under review to determine if the driver should be additionally charged with vehicular assault.

-       On July 8, at approximately 1 p.m., EMS was requested to an accident on Southbound I-95, in the area of the Fenimore Road overpass.

-       On July 8, at approximately 4 p.m., a motorcycle accident on Mamaroneck Avenue resulted in one slight injury.

-       On July 8, at approximately 9:15 p.m., a 56-year-old Mamaroneck resident was driving Northbound on Mamaroneck Avenue and hit another vehicle in the rear bumper area because he was wearing slippers and his feet slipped, he told police. Upon further investigation, the man was arrested for driving while intoxicated and issued two summonses. His vehicle was towed.

Drug offense

On July 8, at approximately 7 p.m., an officer on patrol saw an exchange occur between two men in the wooded area next to the train station. Both men were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marihuana, and only one of them was additionally charged with criminal sale of marihuana.

DWI

A 53-year-old woman from Scarsdale was arrested for driving while intoxicated on Station Plaza, and charged with two counts after submitting herself to a chemical test.

Drinking in the park

-       A 56-year-old male was arrested for drinking in the park on July 8, at approximately 4:20 p.m.

-       A 57-year-old female and a 56-year-old male were arrested on July 10, at approximately 10:40 a.m., for drinking in the park.

Larceny

-       Between the evening of July 5 and the morning of July 6, a wallet was removed from a vehicle parked in the driveway of a Claflin Avenue home. A second vehicle in the same driveway was entered, but nothing was removed, police said. 

-       Between the evening of July 5 and the morning of July 6, personal items were taken from a vehicle parked in the driveway of an Orienta Avenue home. The vehicle was not broken into, but the owner was not certain if the door had been locked.

-       Between the morning of July 5 and noon on July 8, am unlocked vehicle parked on Orienta Avenue was ransacked, but no items were missing, police said. A second unlocked vehicle was entered and a small amount of cash was taken.

-       Between June 30 and July 2, a package containing an iPhone delivered to the Avalon Willow apartments and secured in a mail room was first reported missing by the recipient, and was later found to be empty.

-       On the night of July 8, a GPS was taken from an unlocked car parked on Stanley Avenue.

-       On the night of July 5, an iPod was taken from a vehicle parked in the driveway of an Orienta Avenue home.

-       Between July 1 and 7, the personal ID of a village resident went missing from her residence, she told police. The ID has since been used twice, and the matter is under investigation.

-       A village resident reported that between June 28 and 30, his cell phone was stolen (either from his home or at JFK International Airport). The phone has been compromised for thousands of dollars, police said.

Criminal mischief

-       Between July 3 and 6, graffiti markings were found on the wall of a Concord Avenue building.

-       Between the night of July 8 and the morning of July 9, the rear window of a vehicle parked on Fifth Street was damaged.

Property damage

A large tree branch fell on a parked vehicle on the 400 block of Tompkins Avenue on July 7, around midnight. Police reported large, undetermined amount of damage to the roof, hood and rear trunk. The owner could not be contacted, but a contact card was left on the vehicle, which had a Pennsylvania registration. Police secured the area with tape.
