Westchester Joint Water Works Urges Mamaroneck Customers to Water Lawns on Even/Odd Schedule
The agency said early morning watering by automated systems is putting stress on the infrastructure.

Mamaroneck, NY — Because of the recent hot and dry weather, the Westchester Joint Water Works is asking its residential customers in the village and town of Mamaroneck and the village and town of Harrison who have irrigation systems and contractors that service them to set the controls to operate every other day using a odd/even approach.
A release from the agency said the warmer weather has resulted in high water usage primarily due to the increased use of automated systems in the early morning hours.

The schedule, which the Westchester Joint Water Works is leaving in place through September 30, is as follows:
- House addresses ending in an even number can water on even-numbered calendar days, but not from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- House addresses ending in an odd number can water on odd-numbered calendar days, but not from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The agency is also encouraging customers to make use of “smart controls” for irrigation systems so that, depending on precipitation, temperature, soil moisture and other factors, irrigation water is conserved, used efficiently and not wasted.
