Wind Advisories Issued In Hudson Valley, Power Outages Possible

Wind gusts in all parts of the Hudson Valley could be up to 50 mph.

Hang on to your hats. Wind advisories have been issued for the Hudson Valley for Wednesday by the National Weather Service. For Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties, the advisory is in effect from noon Wednesday until midnight Wednesday.

There could be westerly winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

That is enough to blow down tree limbs, trees and power lines, the NWS said.

Isolated to scattered power outages are possible.

For Columbia, Dutchess and Ulster counties, the advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday.

Winds from the west at 15 to 25 mph are possible, with gusts up to 50 mph. The strongest winds will be Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night.

As with the lower Hudson Valley, the winds and gusts can take down limbs and trees and cause power outages.

Travel could be difficult for high-profile vehicles.
