Winners Are Revealed In Lions Peace Poster Contest

The theme of this year's international student competition is "We are All Connected." In all, six Sound Shore schools were represented.

LARCHMONT-MAMARONECK, NY — The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions have announced the winners of the 2021-22 Peace Poster Contest.

The local competition included 4 schools from Larchmont and Mamaroneck. The LM Lions also hosted two entries from Port Chester. For the Larchmont/Mamaroneck schools, winners and runners up were selected by a panel of local artists, which included Amanda Schlumberger, Carey Federspiel and Laura Bott.

Sparrow Laffont-Mann from The French-American School, Rebecca Smith from Hommocks Middle School, Eda Buyuk from Rye Neck Middle School, Aidan McPherson from Saints John & Paul School, Jose Melger from Port Chester Middle School and Jamie Pescaro from the Port Chester Youth Bureau have now taken the first step to becoming an internationally recognized artist by winning the Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions local competition in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest.

The Lions International Peace Poster Contest is an annual worldwide competition for children ages 11 to 13, with a goal of encouraging students to express their vision of world peace through art.

This year’s theme was "We are All Connected."

The winners were announced on November 12, during a virtual awards ceremony. The online affair was attended by the students, their families and teachers. County Legislator Catherine Parker also participated in the event and congratulated the budding artists.

The winning posters will advance to the district before the international competition. The international winner will be announced at a United Nations event in the spring.

In addition to the winners, two students from each school were awarded honorable mentions, including Chaymaa Amara and Olin Rupchin from The French-American School, Delaney Bloom and Griffin Fanning from Hommocks Middle School, Isabel Reis and Solene Thinat from Rye Neck Middle School, Laura Berger and Pierre-Elie Lacoudre from Saints John & Paul School, Sofia Abarca and Chelsea Pasasin from Port Chester Middle School and Lala Nunez and Zion Prince from the Port Chester Youth Bureau.

The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions worked with Victoria Rolett from the French-American School, Madelyn Fortuna from Hommocks Middle School, Trisha Appel from Rye Neck Middle School, Angela Howard-Rude from Saints John & Paul School, Jeff Tascio from Port Chester Middle School and Charles Morgan from Port Chester Bureau to bring this year's contest to the community and provide these students with the opportunity to share their visions of peace during difficult times.
