Abbey Lane Elementary School fifth graders in Krista Beasley’s class took their coding skills to new heights during a visit with district technology specialist Corie Cosgrove on March 2. The class was the first in the Levittown Public Schools to use laptops to code a pocket-sized robot known as an Ozobot Bit.

While working in groups of two, Cosgrove guided the students through the coding program on OzoBlockly.com. Each group received their own Ozobot Bit and were challenged to code their mini robot to move in a rectangle shape and then spin. The fifth graders first had to calibrate their robot with the online program before they began coding. They used block code to program their Ozobot Bit to move in different directions and even change colors. It was a great lesson to get students familiarized with coding.
