AHRC Helps to Spread the Joy of Reading

Adults from AHRC Nassau pay a visit to Summit Lane Elementary School in partnership with Parents as Reading Partners (PARP) week.

Giggles and chuckles filled a classroom at Summit Lane Elementary School as an adult with special needs read the finishing line to the picture book, Dragons Love Tacos.

As part of Parents as Reading Partners (PARP) Week, Summit Lane Elementary School invited AHRC to join as guest readers. A statewide program designed to encourage children to read at home, PARP is an excellent way to help children develop their reading skills and increase their interest.

Six readers from AHRC Nassau’s Vocational Training Center in Freeport visited various classrooms K-1st throughout the school, spending time reading stories and engaging students, pausing for laughs and questions along the way.

AHRC Nassau partnering to read to school classrooms creates a disability-awareness among young children while also allowing individuals to get involved in their communities and participate in something that they take a keen interest in, reading.

This year’s visit was the second to Summit Lane Elementary and AHRC readers look forward to their next chance to spend time reading to young children.
