GREAT SEASON FOR ISLAND TREES YOUTH WRESTLERS

The Island Trees Youth Wrestling Team completed another successful season after competing in the New York State Wrestling Championships in Bay Shore on March 5th and 6th.  This year the team saw 16 wrestlers qualify to compete in the state tournament, the most qualifiers the team has had.  The team also made a strong showing at the state tournament with all wrestlers having strong performances.  The team had four wrestlers named as all state wrestlers; Vinny Butrico, Michael Spitaletta, Anthony Arana, and Chris Williams.

The Island Trees Youth Wrestling Team was started four years ago and has grown every year.  The year began with over 60 wrestlers aged 5 to 13.  While this year had many new members, wrestlers returning every year is further evidence of the success of the program.  The team’s success can be attributed to the dedication of the coaching staff, the support of Coach Garcia and the Island Trees High School and Middle School Wrestling team and staff, and of course the dedication of the wrestlers themselves.  As the team continues to grow, the future of Island Trees Wrestling looks to be a bright one.
