ITMMS Students Place in the Ecybermission Competition

Teams from Island Trees Memorial Middle School won first and second place in New York State in the Ecybermission Competition, which is sponsored by the United States Army. The competition challenges students to brainstorm an invention and they also have to test their creation, according to ITMMS Principal Roger Bloom.

Bloom explained that the first place team, called “The G-rasers,” devised a lamination product for PVC fencing to prevent graffiti.  This team included members Thomas Piscopio, Robert LiVoti, Ryan Jaeger, and Mike Smith. – all of whom received a $1,000 savings bond. Additionally, their project is being considered for the national award.

“The Tooth Brush Squad,” which was the ITMMS second place team, invented a brace that allowed people with arthritis to hold a toothbrush. The team members are David Joyce, Daniel Dmuchowski, Nicholas Piarulli, and Stephen Hogan. These students are to receive a $500 savings bond for their efforts.

Twelve other teams from ITMMS also submitted projects that yielded honorable mention awards.

“Congratulations to all of the award winners and Mrs. Eileen Anderson, teacher of the grade 8 Science Enrichment class at MMS,” Principal Bloom said. “We are proud of your accomplishments and success.”
