Despite Complaints, Health Department Finds No Rodents Behind Division Avenue Storefronts

Residents complained of rat problem near Division Avenue restaurants.

The Health Department has denied any rodent presence behind a strip of businesses on Division Avenue despite comments on a previous Patch article and a formal complaint.

Nassau County Health Department Spokesperson Mary Ellen Lorraine told Patch the complaint consisted of the nature of the food being served at various eateries, as well as rodent activity behind the strip of stores. Lorraine also said that the department took action immediately, implementing an investigation the very next day.

"Our inspectors from our food unit went to the stores and removed and denatured all of the food, and cleared out the dumpsters" said Lorraine. "No rodent activity was noted while our inspectors were there."

The investigation came just one month after a fire broke out in Fu Mei Kitchen, causing heavy water and smoke damage to itself and neighboring businesses.
