Division Avenue High School Hires Two New Assistant Principals

They come to the district with a wealth of experience in education.

The Levittown School District has appointed Terence Rusch and Sam McElroy as assistant principasl of Division Avenue High School.

Rusch, a Bayside resident, formerly held the position of special education chairperson at Division Avenue High School since 2014, after having served as a special education teacher in the Great Neck Public School District. Rusch replaces John Coscia, who currently serves as principal of Division Avenue High School.

Rusch holds his bachelor’s degree in English literature and composition from Fairfield University, a master’s degree in childhood education and teaching students with disabilities from St. John’s University, and advanced certification in educational leadership and administration from Queen’s College.

McElroy, a Babylon resident, formerly held the position of assistant principal of instructional support services at Flushing High School in Queens. During his tenure, he also served as athletic director and coordinator of instructional technology and iLearn NYC program, a program which allows students access to courses currently not offered at their school through use of a computer and access to the internet.

McElroy holds his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Towson University, as well as a master’s degree in special education and advanced certification in school leadership from CUNY Queens College.
