Election 2011: Dunne Re-Elected to Ninth Term in Legislature

Legis. Dennis Dunne will serve a ninth term representing the 15th District of the Nassau County Legislature after defeating Democratic challenger Ethan Irwin in his bid for re-election.

With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Legis. Dunne (R-Levittown) received 7,107 votes, which was 67% of the votes cast. Irwin (D-Levittown) received 3,436 votes. 

"I just want to thank the men and women that voted for me," Dunne said. "I work very, very hard. It's nice that the people appreciate it, and I'll continue to do the very best I can for the men and women of the 15th district."

Dunne has held a seat in the County Legislature since its formation in 1996. He previously won re-election campaigns in 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009. Prior to his election to the legislature, he served as the director of the Nassau County Veterans' Agency.

Irwin, a civil attorney, is originally from Fayetteville, NY. He has lived in Nassau County since 1997. The 15th District covers Levittown, Island Trees, Wantagh and parts of Seaford.

The race between Irwin and Dunne heated up this week when Irwin wrote a Letter to the Editor  on Monday challenging Dunne's voting record on the sewer system. Dunne's response was .

"It ended on a good note," said Dunne about the campaign.
