NCPD Prescription Drug Take Back Program

The Nassau County Police Department announced that they will be participating in the DEA's prescription drug take back program on Apr. 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the eighth precinct in Levittown, located at 286 Wantagh Avenue.

When this program was run last September, the DEA was able to collect 242,000 pounds of prescription drugs throughout the country with the partnership of local law enforcement, according to a press release from the county. This year, the DEA will be coordinating 5,100 collection sites throughout the country.

“Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet," said Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano in the press release. "Eliminating these unwanted, unused and expired medications from Nassau County homes will go a long way to helping protect the young people of this county as well as children from accidental ingestion. To that end, I urge all residents to go through their home medicine cabinets and take advantage of this opportunity to safely dispose of their pharmaceuticals at any of our drop off locations.”
