Police Seeking Public's Help To ID Man Who Killed Levittown Teen

A man driving a red pickup truck fled the scene after striking an 18-year-old Thursday afternoon, police say.

UPDATE, 3 p.m.: Nassau County police held a press conference Friday afternoon to ask for the public's help to track down the man that ran over and killed 18-year-old Taranjit Parmar.

On Thursday evening, Parmar and the unidentified man were involved in a minor traffic accident. The two pulled over in front of a gas station on Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown. According to Det. Vincent Garcia, security video from the gas station showed Parmar getting out of her car and approaching the man in the pickup truck. He then took off, striking Parmar, and headed east on Hempstead Turnpike.

Garcia the only description police had of the man is that he was a middle-aged white man wearing a baseball cap. He was driving a mid-sized, four-door red pickup truck.

"If you live in Nassau County or commute through Nassau County, you know what Hempstead Turnpike looks like at 5 o'clock on a Thursday," Garcia said. "People saw this incident."

Garcia said the police are confident multiple people witnessed the incident. He said it doesn't matter how small a detail you think you may have, but it's important to call the police to report it.

"An 18-year-old girl lost her life because of a fender bender," Garcia said.

UPDATE: Police have identified the teen that was killed as Taranjit K. Parmar, 18, of Levittown. Police are still searching for the truck that ran her over.

LEVITTOWN, NY – Police are searching for a man and his red pickup truck after a hit-and-run that killed a teen in Nassau County Thursday afternoon.

According to police, an 18-year-old woman was driving a 2018 Jeep traveling east on Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown just before 5 p.m. when her vehicle collided with the pickup truck, which was heading north on Gardiners Avenue and attempting to turn right onto Hempstead Turnpike.

After the crash, which police described as minor, both drivers immediately pulled off the roadway at 3300 Hempstead Turnpike.

While the Jeep's driver was out of her vehicle, the man fled the scene, striking the teen and running her over, police said. The pickup truck fled eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike.

A Nassau Police ambulance transported the teen, who suffered trauma to her head and chest, to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
