Island Trees HS Music Composition Student Selected for NYSSMA All-State

Island Trees HS is proud to announce that sophomore Andrew Press was selected to feature his original electronic music composition at the 2015 NYSSMA All-State Conference, held in Rochester, N.Y.

Andrew was among only 10 students chosen for this honor throughout all of New York State. This accomplishment was made possible due to the guidance and teaching of music teacher Mr. J. Peter Hansen, whose music theory/electronic music courses facilitate the students’ original compositions, and who submits his students’ compositions to the NYSSMA Electronic Music Composers Showcase Committee every year to be considered for All-State.

Andrew’s composition is based on the Dorian Mode scale learned in Mr. Hansen’s AP music theory class to compose “Dorian Moods”, and was recorded on one of the new Korg Kronos workstations recently purchased for the Electronic Music Lab. At the NYSSMA All-State Conference, the composition will be featured and commented on by distinguished composers and music educators from around the country. We are proud of Andrew on his achievement in music, and wish him the best as his composition is honored at the NYSSMA All-State Conference.
