8th grade members of the Student Leader Corps at Island Trees Memorial Middle School spread a little holiday cheer to the patients on the pediatric ward at Nassau University Medical Center on Wednesday, Dec. 12.
The students went room to room delivering wrapped gifts for each of the patients that were generously donated by teachers, parents and members of the Island Trees community.
With each gift, patients were also presented with a pillowcase that was hand-made by children from the ConKerr Cancer Foundation who themselves were once ill. The pillowcases also contained a note to the children hoping to help raise their spirits during their difficult time.
Following the gift giving, the patients were all invited to join us in the playroom to paint, play games and make holiday crafts.
A special thanks to Mrs. Samantha Bunster for providing us with the pillowcases and for all those who donated gifts and their time to help make this holiday season a little brighter for some special children. It was an experience that will be remembered by all.
Submitted by Mrs. Danielle Azar and Mrs. Amanda Steele, Student Leader Corps Advisors and Dr. Roger Bloom, Principal.
