Lady Generals Top Herricks, Head to Class AA Semis
MacArthur defeated Lady Highlanders Wednesday evening in Class A quarter-finals.
Before Wednesday's matchup, the MacArthur Lady Generals knew they’d have to keep a close eye on Herricks freshman Erin Rivera and junior Alison Ricchiuti to ensure victory.
Senior Vanessa Wyckoff and junior Jena Cozza led the Lady Generals, and MacArthur was able to top Herricks, 40-26.
"We stuck to our game plan as best we could defensively," said MacArthur head coach Kathleen Auer. "We knew what players we had to hone on and what shooters we had to watch."

In typical fashion, Wyckoff delivered in the last 16 minutes where she scored 11 of her 13 points. The 6-foot-2 powerhouse also racked up eight rebounds for the Lady Generals.
"She really had some gutty baskets for us," Auer said of Wyckoff's second half performance.

MacArthur held up a strong lead from beginning to end, despite a valiant effort from the Lady Highlanders. By the start of the second half, the Lady Generals were up 23-17 and were able to nearly double their score by the final buzzer.
"Herricks did a nice job of not letting us run the ball as much as we'd like to, but we did a nice job with half court sets here and there to pull out," Auer said.
Herricks head coach Glenn Lavey was disappointed with the losing result, but stood proud behind his team's display on the court.
"They played well and I really think that we deserved to win," said Lavey.
The Lady Generals are headed to the semi-finals for the third consecutive year, where they'll faceoff with second-seeded Massapequa.
"I'm extremely proud of this group," Auer explained. "We made it to the semi-finals the past two years so to make it for a third is really great. We have some work to do but they all know their roles and they play them so well."
